There are a number of reasons why we might forget our dreams. For one, dreams tend to occur during REM sleep, which is a lighter stage of sleep. This means that we are more likely to wake up and forget our dreams if we are disturbed during REM sleep. Additionally, dreams are often fragmented and lack the linear narrative structure of waking life, which makes them difficult to remember. Finally, many of us simply don’t pay attention to our dreams and forget them soon after waking up.

We forget most of our dreams because they occur during REM sleep, when our bodies are paralyzed. Dreams also appear to be random and disconnected, so they are not easy to remember.

Why are dreams so hard to remember?

It’s possible that the reason we have trouble remembering our dreams is because the hippocampus, a key brain structure responsible for learning and memory processes, is not fully active when we wake up. This means that a dream may be present in our short-term memory but not yet able to be transferred to long-term storage. While more research is needed to confirm this theory, it provides a possible explanation for why our dreams often slip away from us after we wake up.

It’s normal to forget your dreams soon after waking up. Dreams are encoded in fragile memory traces that are quickly overwritten by new information. However, some people are able to remember their dreams more vividly and for longer periods of time. This may be due to differences in brain function or structure.
