There is no single answer to the question of why we don’t remember dreams. Dreams occur during a stage of sleep called REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. This is the deepest stage of sleep and is when we are most likely to have vivid dreams. Dreams during REM sleep are thought to be caused by the activation of certain areas of the brain. However, it is not clear why we don’t remember all of our dreams. One theory is that dreams are processed in a different part of the brain than waking thoughts, and that this area of the brain is not well connected to our memory. Another theory is that we only remember dreams if we are awakened during or soon after REM sleep. This may be why we often remember dreams from the early morning hours.

There are a few possible reasons why someone might not remember their dreams. It could be that they simply don’t dream, or that they do dream but their dreams are so unremarkable that they don’t stand out in their memory. It’s also possible that they have trouble recalling their dreams because they don’t get enough sleep, or because they sleep too deeply and their dreams don’t register in their conscious mind.

REM sleep is a phase of sleep when we are most likely to dream. Our ability to make memories is impaired during REM sleep, which may explain why we often forget our dreams. Missing out on REM sleep could mean missing out on dreams.
