In 1988, Universal Pictures built a baseball diamond on two farms a few miles outside Dyersville, Iowa, for the 1989 film Field of Dreams. The character of Archibald “Moonlight” Graham was based on an actual baseball player with the same name. The player Moonlight Graham actually only played in one major league game, for the New York Giants, and never had an at bat. He did, however, play in the field for one inning.<\/p>\n

The Lansing family are big fans of the film Field of Dreams and decided to purchase the property the film was shot on shortly after its release in 1989. The family has turned the site into a destination for baseball and movie fans, who come to play catch on the field and walk through the corn like the characters in the film.<\/p>\n

One of those plans was to bring Major League Baseball back to the field for a game in 2023, just as the movie did in 1989.<\/p>\n

But now, Thomas says, MLB has informed him that the game won’t happen because the field will be undergoing construction in 2023.<\/p>\n

“We are obviously disappointed that MLB will not be returning to the Field of Dreams in 2023,” Thomas said in a statement. “However, we understand that MLB has a long-term vision for the site and we are committed to working with them to make that vision a reality.”<\/p>\n

Thomas said construction will begin next year on a “world-class” baseball facility that will be used by MLB, minor league and college teams. He said the facility will also be used for youth tournaments and other events.<\/p>\n

The Field of Dreams movie site has been a popular tourist destination since the movie was released in 1989. It was purchased by Thomas and his partners last year for $3.4 million.<\/p>\n

Does the farmer still own the Field of Dreams? <\/h2>\n

The Rahe family has a long history in the area and were farming before the movie was made. Andy and Adam Rahe’s uncle, Keith, ran the left and centerfield parts of the park, which were owned by the Ameskamp family. The Lansing family owned the remainder of the property, including the house.<\/p>\n

Is Don Lansing still alive <\/h3>\n

Although Lansing sold the Field of Dreams farmstead in 2012, he can still be found most days puttering around on a lawn mower or tractor. He and his wife Becky (who he met on a pilgrimage to the Field of Dreams in 1995) still tend to the Field of Dreams, and it remains an important part of their lives. For Lansing, the Field of Dreams is more than just a nostalgic reminder of his past – it’s a place that brings him joy and a sense of peace.<\/p>\n
