What does the Coldplay album cover mean?

The X&Y cover image is a graphical representation of the Baudot code, an early form of telegraph communication that relied on a series of ones and zeroes to convey messages (and thus, was probably the first truly “digital” means of communication). The Baudot code was developed in the late 19th century and was used extensively throughout the early 20th century, until it was eventually supplanted by more modern forms of communication.

This song is about having a head full of dreams and imagining all of the possibilities that could come true. It’s about hoping for the best in the present and future. The lyrics are optimistic and full of hope.
