What happens to Field of Dreams field after game?

A group headed by Hall of Famer and former Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas purchased a controlling interest in the All-Star Ballpark Heaven and the Field of Dreams movie site last year. But none of those plans will come to fruition in the next few years. Thomas, the owner and CEO of Go the Distance Baseball, said construction delays and the pandemic have put the brakes on all but the most essential projects at the Dyersville site.
One casualty of the delays is MLB’s return to the Field of Dreams. The Chicago White Sox were scheduled to play the New York Yankees at the site in August 2020, but the game was postponed due to the pandemic. MLB had hoped to reschedule the game for August 2021, but Thomas said construction delays will prevent that from happening.
“It’s just not going to work out,” Thomas said. “We’re not going to have the city infrastructure in place to support an event of that magnitude.”
The White Sox and Yankees are now scheduled to play at the Field of Dreams in 2023, but Thomas said that might change depending on the progress of construction.
